Gracenomics? What's that?

WHAT IS GRACENOMICS?

It’s a new series that starts this weekend as we learn of God’s dynamic message of grace in some of the smallest books of the New Testament.  You want to get a headstart for this weekend?  Read 2 John and get ready to interact with this powerpacked book!

THANK YOU, STEPHANIE EARLE!

Sunday June 8 will be Stephanie Earle’s last Sunday with us as director of Children’s Ministry.  If you see her, please tell her thank you for the last two years of faithful ministry to our children.

BE PART OF A NICE SURPRISE!

So Jared is now Dr. Jared!  That’s the good news.

But Dr. Jared and his wife Jen and their family are moving away.  It’s good news and sad news at the same time.

But hey, you can help us honor them as they move this summer to Chicago where Jared will begin his teaching position at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  Sunday, June 15 is his last day so we want to surprise them with a reception and a gift.

So here’s what you can do….

- Buy a gift card between now and June 13.  What store, you say?  Wherever you think would help in their move or something nice for their girls.

- Drop it off at the Welcome Center.  We will add it to the other gift cards we’re giving them.

- Mark your calendar!  Reception is Sunday, June 15 in the Fellowship Mall between the services.

- Keep all this hush hush… it’s a surprise!

WANT TO IMPACT A TEENAGER’S LIFE?

We need hosts for high school students who will be visiting the US from Norway with our missionaries Thor and Kate Odland.  Dates are Tuesday, June 24 to Saturday, June 28. They have a packed schedule, so you’d only need to give them breakfast and bring them to Central in the morning.  Sign up in the Welcome Center or on the Connect Card.

JUNGLE SAFARI - WHERE KIDS EXPLORE THE NATURE OF GOD!

Ewing Kid’s Camp - 2014!

Monday, July 21 - Friday, July 25.

6:00pm - 8:45pm

Impact a child for eternity! We are looking for servants who love kids to be part of fun teams. Visit us in the Fellowship Mall and sign up for a week kids will remember forever!

IF YOU FEED THEM, THEY WILL (hopefully) COME

Save the date for our Annual Business Meeting and All Church Fellowship!  It’s on Sunday, June 22 at12:30pm in Allen Hall.  We will have lunch as we select new leaders for this coming year and celebrate what God has done this past year through Central. Childcare will be provided. Invite will be sent out soon.

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, May 23, 2014

Dear Central Family,

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

I hope that you will join us this weekend as we wrap up our Q and A series.  I will be teaching in the 9:30 Classic Service on the topic, “What happens after you die?” while my buddy Pastor Bryan Bunagan, our Pastor of College and Student ministries, will be teaching on the question “Where is God in pain and suffering?”  I want to encourage you to come and join us as we seek to enter into what God has to say to all of us on these important topics.

Jeremy and Stephanie Bell would like to thank you for your outpouring of love and kindness! We helped them pack up the moving truck on Wednesday and they are now on their way to their new home.  Their new address is 2523 Spring Harbor Circle, Apt 4, Mount Dora, FL 32757.

Life Group Fair this Sunday in the Fellowship Mall!  The Life Group summer session begins on Sunday, June 1 and there are groups offered on Sunday morning and during the week.  Stop by the fair, check out the groups, and pick up a brochure.

Help us honor Jared and Jen Alcántara!  As many of you know, our Teaching Pastor Jared Alcántara and his family will be moving to the Chicago area this summer so that Jared can begin his teaching position at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  Sunday, June 15 will be the last Sunday that Jared preaches and we want to surprise them with a special reception and gift.  So please keep this a secret and do not tell them.  We want to send them off with a shower of gift cards as they are preparing to set up their new home and get settled in.  So if between now and June 13 you would purchase a gift card to any place you think would bless them and drop it off at the church in the Welcome Center, we will add these to our gift basket we are preparing for their family to present to them on June 15.  Think of places that would be helpful to them as they set up their home as well as restaurants or cards for the kids.  Just have fun and let’s shower them with blessings as they have blessed all of us.  We will have a reception for the Alcántaras in between the 9:30 and 11:00 services in the Fellowship mall on June 15.  So, please keep it a secret.  If you have questions, feel free to contact Irene Knott at the church office at iknott@cbcnj.org

We as a church are excited to be able to host high school students who will be visiting the US from Norway with our missionaries Thor and Kate Odland.  We are looking for host homes from Tuesday, June 24 to Saturday, June 28. The students have events planned every day, and as a host, you are only responsible to transport them to Central, host them at night after their daily activities, and give them breakfast before they leave each morning.  If you host, please sign up in the Welcome Center or on the Connect Card.

Save the date for the Annual Business Meeting and All Church Fellowship Lunch on Sunday, June 22 at 12:30pm in Allen Hall. Celebrate with us as to what God has done this past year.  New officers will be elected and the budget for the upcoming year will be presented.  Lunch and childcare will be provided.  Registration link will be sent out shortly.

Mark your calendars for Kids Camp Ewing on Monday, July 21 to July 25. Registration for kids starts on June 22.  We will be building volunteer teams for arts and crafts, security, food, crew leaders and Bible time. If interested, please contact Stephanie Earle at searle@cbcnj.org or Laurie Brett D’Costa at laurbuckets@verizon.net

Thank you to everyone who served at Central Cares Day!  We heard so many wonderful stories of lives touched and saw pictures that spoke volumes of the love you shared.  We are so thankful for the love, compassion, and willingness to put others’ needs first that you show here at Central.  Special thanks to the CommunityConnections team who did a fantastic job of organizing the event and for helping our church leave the building!

We still need your pictures of your high school senior!  Parents, we would like to commemorate the graduation of your high school senior in a video display this June.  Please send high quality photos of your student and your family to Pastor Bryan at bbunagan@cbcnj.org.  Senior portraits, candids, and funny pictures are welcome!

Just a reminder as you look to travel this summer, we depend on your faithful gifts to this ministry for us to be able to impact people here and around the world.  A great way to make sure your giving is consistent is to use the online giving option located on our website.  We use the online option to give as a family, as it is quick, easy, fully secure, and confidential.  Thank you for being faithful in your giving.

See you this weekend!

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, May 16, 2014

Dear Central,

This is going to be a weekend with many mixed emotions, and I really hope that you are going to be able to be with us for our Worship Services.

We will be continuing our series on Q and A, and I have asked Damon Missouri to teach in the Classic Service at 9:30 where he will be addressing your questions about angels:  “What do angels do?  What is their ministry to us today, and why is this significant?”  I have also asked Pastor Anthony Gilmer, our Pastor of Spiritual Development, to speak on the subject of “Whose Interpretation is Right?”  This is a significant question that we all face when speaking to people about different interpretations of the same verse of Scripture: How do we know which one is right?  These are two great topics and two great opportunities for you to grow in your faith. We will also be opening this up to a time of Q and A after each message, so get your questions ready.

FAREWELL FOR JEREMY AND STEPHANIE BELL.  I mentioned mixed emotions, as this weekend will be our last chance to worship with Jeremy and Stephanie Bell as members of our staff.  Jeremy and Stephanie and their boys Caden and Logan will be leaving for Florida this Wednesday.  We look forward to powerful worship services this weekend and an opportunity to say thank you and good bye to the Bell family at receptions immediately after the Saturday night service and on Sunday in between the 9:30 and 11:00 services.  We would like to ask you to bring a card of appreciation for the Bells as a way of saying thank you for their seven years of faithful service to Christ here at Central.  We will miss them greatly and a huge gap will be left with them leaving, but we are very excited that Jeremy can continue his studies in seminary and also serve on staff at Northland Church in Mount Dora, Florida.  So please make plans to be here to say thank you and wish them well as they enter this new chapter.

CENTRAL CARES DAY.  Before all that, don’t forget to participate in Central Cares Day tomorrow!  I am looking forward to being a part of the NAMI 5K Fun Walk to raise funds for mental health awareness, and we have a team that will be walking with me.  Teams will be spread around our community and I look forward to seeing how God will work.

SUMMER LIFE GROUPS.  The Summer Life Group session starts on Sunday, June 1!  Please pick up a brochure this weekend and choose from the many groups offered on Sundays and during the week.

MISSIONS TRIP - BRAZIL 2014.  There is one more information session this weekend for Brazil!  The World Impact Ministry Team will be putting together a missions trip to Brazil from July 25 to August 4. The trip will focus on doing a Vacation Bible School, working with the youth, discipling new Christian couples, evangelism, and helping set up an addiction recovery program. An informational meeting will be held this Sunday, May 18 at 10:30 in Adult 3 for anyone interested in going.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS - PICTURES NEEDED:  Parents of graduating high school seniors: What an exciting time for you and your students!  We would like to commemorate their graduation in a video display this June.  Please send high quality photos of your student and your family to Pastor Bryan at bbunagan@cbcnj.org.  Senior portraits, candids, and funny pictures are welcome!

SAVE THE DATE FOR KIDS CAMP!  Mark your calendars for Kids Camp Ewing on Monday, July 21 to July 25. Stay tuned for more details on how you can get involved in bringing the gospel to the children of Central and the community.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you this weekend—it will definitely be a weekend we will long remember!

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, May 2, 2014

Dear Central,

I am really looking forward to how God is going to meet with us this weekend in worship and I hope you will plan to be with us!  We will be in our second week of our Q and A series, and this week I will be addressing the Church’s response to same sex attraction in both the Saturday night and Sunday modern services at 9:30 and 11:00.  All you have to do is check your favorite news website or read a popular blog to see how important it is for us to address this issue from a Christ-centered perspective.  Jared Alcántara will be teaching in the 9:30 Classic service on the subject of suffering and I know you will be challenged by his teaching on this subject as well.  So you see you have two great opportunities to be stretched and to grow in your understanding of God’s heart on both of these issues. We will also be celebrating communion in all of our worship services.

COMMITMENT SUNDAY THIS WEEKEND.  Don’t forget this Sunday is commitment Sunday for our Greater Campaign Year 2.  Please be prepared with your commitment card for your giving to the Greater campaign for this next year.  We will also have cards available in the worship folders.  Remember that the goals of the Greater Campaign are to pay down the debt for the facility God is using so powerfully so that we can impact our surrounding communities with the power of the gospel.  Thank you for your generosity!

CENTRAL CARES DAY:   We still need people to sign up for the 2nd Annual Central Cares Day!  The event will be on Saturday, May 17 from 8 am to 2 pmVolunteers will go out into the community to serve in multiple ways with different community service organizations from 9 am to 12 pm then gather back at Central for a celebratory lunch. Anyone who participated last year was blessed and we know that God is going to do even bigger things through the event this year. Bring a friend! There will be a table this weekend at the Fellowship Mall for signups, but you can go to this link to volunteer.

FAREWELL FOR JEREMY AND STEPHANIE BELL.  As you know, Jeremy and Stephanie Bell will be finishing seven years of ministry here at Central on Sunday, May 18.  They will be moving to Florida where Jeremy will be pursuing seminary studies and will be on staff at Northland Church’s Mount Dora Campus.  We want to send them off with our love and support so we will be hosting two receptions in their honor on Saturday, May 17 after the 6 pm worship service and on Sunday, May 18 in between the 9:30 and the 11:00 worship services.  We want to encourage you to plan to attend one of these receptions to say thank you to the Bells for their ministry to you. We also want to encourage you to bring a card of appreciation with you as a way of saying thanks to them that they will remember for many years.  Thanks for helping us send them off with the honor they deserve.

TRANSIT NIGHT POSTPONED.  The event originally scheduled for Sunday, May 4 for high school seniors and juniors as well as their parents to talk about being Christians in college has been postponed.  A new date will be determined.  Thank you so much for your interest and we apologize for any inconvenience.  For more information contact Pastor Bryan at bbunagan@cbcnj.org.

STARTING POINT:  Are you curious about Jesus, the Bible, or Christianity? Starting Point is a 10-week interactive discussion designed for anyone who is investigating faith or coming back to the faith but has questions. Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, April 25, 2014

Dear Central,

I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter Celebration with your family and friends!  We certainly were blessed in a great way with all of our guests and the energy was a boost to all of us.  We had a number of people indicate they made first time professions of faith and we are looking forward to seeing how God will be at work in their lives.  I am very excited for what God has in store this weekend as we worship together.

NEW SERIES!  We will start a new message series this Weekend called Q and A.  Each weekend we will be focusing on answering questions you submitted that you would like to see us address.  This weekend I will be speaking on Saturday night and in both Modern services on Sunday on the topic of the Church’s response to mental illness.  This is such an important topic that we want to examine how God has called us to minister to those who struggle with mental illness and to minister to the caregivers as well.  This is a topic that is close to my heart and I am looking forward to sharing the journey our family has been on and what God has taught us. We will also be featuring a special interview that you will not want to miss.  Pastor Gilmer will be addressing the issue of Why Pray? in the Classic Service.

GUEST WORSHIP LEADER!  This weekend, we will have a guest worship leader with us in all three Modern Services. Andre Butler led us in worship on New Year’s Eve and we are excited to have him with us this weekend to lead us once again.  I know you will be blessed by his ministry with us.

LAST CHANCE FOR GREATER 1:  This Sunday is your last chance to give to our Greater Vision Campaign, Year 1.  We will be closing the books on this first year of our debt removal and ministry expansion campaign.  I want to encourage you to give either in the offering or online so that we can finish this year well.  Thank you to everyone who has generously given!  God is doing great things because of your sacrifice!

COMMITMENT SUNDAY IS ONE WEEK AWAY:  Next weekend, which is May 3- 4, we are asking everyone to bring back their Greater commitment cards and their first offering to start our second year of the Greater campaign. You will remember our goal in this campaign: to pay down the debt on our facility so that we can expand our ministry to reach Trenton, Pennington, and Yardley.  So please keep praying and then take the time to fill in your commitment cards (available this weekend) and bring them back next weekend. Thank you for the way you are seeking to honor God through your gifts.

LAST DATE FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT PROGRAMS:  The last day for the Winter Session of Life Groups and Wednesday Night Alive is this Wednesday, April 30. A new Spring/Summer Session of Life Groups will resume in June.

TRANSIT NIGHT:  Breakaway Student Ministries and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship will be hosting a night for high school seniors and juniors as well as their parents to talk about being a Christian on a college campus. We would love for you to join us on Sunday, May 4 at 7:00pm. For more information contact Pastor Bryan at bbunagan@cbcnj.org.

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, April 18, 2014

Dear Central:

The Easter weekend countdown has begun!  I am looking forward with great expectancy as to what God will do this weekend through your prayers and boldness to invite friends to come with you to one of our weekend services.

So let’s recap:

Let's worship together at this evening's Good Friday service at 7 pm. We will be blessed by our Teaching Pastor Jared Alcántara and celebrate the sacrifice of Christ at the cross. Childcare will be available from birth to five years old. See you then!

Easter weekend services are: Saturday night at 6 pm, 9:30 Modern, 9:30 Classic, and 11:00 Modern.  I will be preaching Saturday night and at both Sunday Modern Services while Jared Alcántara will be giving the message at the Classic Service.  We are looking forward to all worship that has been planned for all of these services, so please plan to come and bring someone with you.  We will be focusing on the difference the resurrection of Christ can make in all of our lives and it is going to be a powerful weekend.  Thank you for reaching out to our guests to make them feel comfortable and by helping in any way to make this a special weekend.  Part of what will be happening is we will be giving out Q and A cards for our new series that will kick off next weekend.  This weekend you will have an opportunity to write down any questions you have that you would like to see us respond to from a Biblical perspective.  The next five weeks are going to be a lot of fun!

Other upcoming events:

Hey guys!  Save the date!  On April 26, 2014, you’re invited All In, a men’s mini-retreat that includes paintball, basketball, ping pong, and practical talks about staying pure, healthy, and happy in life and marriage.  The event is from 9am to 3pm.  More details to follow.

The 2nd Annual Central Cares Day will be on Saturday, May 17 from 8 am to 2 pmVolunteers will go out into the community to serve in multiple ways with different community service organizations from 9 am to 12 pm then gather back at Central for a celebratory lunch. Anyone who participated last year was blessed and we know that God is going to do even bigger things through the event this year. Bring a friend! There will be a table next weekend at the Fellowship Mall for signups and the online volunteer link will be sent out soon.

Praying and looking forward to a powerful weekend of impact!

Special Post Palm Sunday E-Letter: Monday, April 14, 2014

Dear Central,

What a great Palm Sunday weekend!

I just want to encourage you to take time today at some point and just praise God with me for how He poured Himself out at all of the services.  God was at work in a powerful way and I just want to make sure we take the time to tell Him thank you!

The Motorcycle Rally for Promise of Grace on Saturday was unbelievable!  The event raised over $5,000 for the Ewing Girls’ Home, which is a home for unwed mothers.   Also, two families who came to the event that day came to the Saturday night service as a result.  To see the way that the CommunityConnections team joyfully served once again in so many ways to show the love of Christ was such a powerful boost to me and reminder of why we do what we do!  (pictures by Toni Campbell)

Saturday night service was very exciting as we baptized our first person on Saturday night and the whole group of 50 of us went into the worship center to surround this young man Sam Muscente as he got baptized.  His mom and brother even brought cake and cupcakes to celebrate!  It was a powerful time of reminding us that God continues to change lives.  (pictures by Toni Campbell)

On Sunday morning, there were about 116 in the Classic Service where Elizabeth did an awesome job of putting together a powerful worship service, with bells, a kids choir (15 kids), adult choir, and drama vignettes that I heard from a number of people were very powerful reminders of the gift of Christ for us.   I just prayed through the Connect Cards and saw two different families amongst others that were there to hear the kids sing and had great needs and were touched through the service.

The two Modern Services with baptisms were very powerful.  We had people coming out of the audience during both services and the worship team just rocked!!!! To see the Holy Spirit work in such a powerful way through the testimonies that were shared was a powerful reminder of why we are here and what God has called us to do!  The roof felt like it was going to blow off at 11:00!  And none of us will ever forget the powerful testimony of Terri Huggins who even though struggling with Cerebral Palsy chose to come to be baptized.  There was not a dry eye in the house as Kerry McClintock read her testimony. Due to her boldness and courage to step out and follow Jesus, others stepped up to be baptized! The worship kept flowing and the people kept coming to be baptized!

I just prayed for a new family, where the wife came a week ago, and now she and her husband came together yesterday.  The coolest thing was I called them this past week to thank them for coming and they just moved to the area and are looking for a church, did not plan to come back this week, but did, and see how God blessed them!

I met so many guests yesterday in each service who just praised God for what they experienced.  Our total worship attendance was just shy of 700 for all the services!

So with that in mind, please take time to thank God for what HE IS DOING!  Ask Him to continue to work this weekend, on Good Friday, and Easter weekend.  I know Jared and I are pumped to be preaching this weekend.  Pray that the people will be bold to invite friends, the gospel will come forth clearly, and we will see fruit that will remain!

Please also pray as people continue to pray about their commitments on May 4 to Year Two of Greater.  We are asking everyone to bring their commitment cards and first offering that Sunday.  Pray that God will work on hearts.  I just heard from a single mom who was praising God for a new job she has just received and here is what she said: “I am so excited to be able to now give more to the church.   God is so GOOD!”  This was a single mom, who is stepping out in faith and sees God’s hand at work.  Please pray that others will do the same.

Just had to take time as I begin this week to let you know how God is at work so we can praise, pray, and wait expectantly.

Thanking God for all of you!

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, April 11, 2014

Dear Central,

I am sitting here in my office just reflecting over the different individuals who are committed to be baptized this coming weekend, and I am just thanking the Lord for His grace and how He is changing lives here at Central!  This Palm Sunday weekend is going to be a powerful weekend of hope and victory.  I will be preaching on Saturday night and at both Modern Services on Sunday at 9:30 and 11.  We will be baptizing people in all three services.  So if you are not yet baptized and God has been calling, the time is now!  Just bring a change of clothes and be ready to be blessed and be a blessing to others!  Jared Alcántara will be teaching in the 9:30 Classic Service.  I have seen the worship plans for all the services and they are going to be powerful expressions of God’s hope and desire for all of us.  So make plans to be with us.

But before all that happens, tomorrow we will be hosting a Motorcycle Rally in partnership with Promise of Grace ministries.  I am hearing that close to 200 bikers will be here to take off on a bike rally to Pennsylvania and then return for lunch.  This rally is being held to raise funds for the home for unwed mothers right here in Ewing.  Thank you to everyone who signed up to help out with this event!

This week, we will worship together on Good Friday evening at 7 pm.  We will be blessed by our teaching pastor, Jared Alcántara and celebrate the sacrifice of Christ at the cross.  Childcare will be available from birth to five years old.

Easter is coming!  Invite your friends and family and come to any of our services:  Saturday, April 19 at 6:00pm; and Sunday Morning, April 20 at 9:30 and 11:00am.

This past weekend, we announced that the second year of the GREATER campaign will kick off on Sunday, May 4.  We want to finish the first year strong and all gifts given by April 30 will be credited to your commitment for this year.  We are asking everyone to bring their commitment card for this new year of GREATER on Sunday, May 4 along with your first offering.  Remember the purpose of GREATER is to pay down the debt on this beautiful facility God has given to us so we can expand our ministry to the surrounding areas of Trenton, Yardley, and Pennington. Ninety percent of your gift goes to debt reduction and 10% goes to ministry expansion goals.  So please pray about what God would have you do and do and let’s finish well and bring a sacrificial offering on May 4!

Also, we will begin a new series called “Q & A” on May 4 that will answer your questions that you submit on Easter Sunday!  I can’t wait!

Other things to take note of:

~ Hey guys!  Save the date!  On April 26, 2014, you’re invited All In, a men’s mini-retreat that includes paintball, basketball, ping pong, and practical talks about staying pure, healthy, and happy in life and marriage.  The event is from 9am to 3pm.  More details to follow.

~ We are looking for team members who are gifted and equipped to serve in the following creative areas: graphics and media, drama and creative communication, and script writing.  We also need technical help on Sunday morning with running the camera and the pro presenter software for the worship services. We will train you!  If interested in learning more, please e-mail gperkins@cbcnj.org or mark your interest on the Connect Card.

~ Central is seeking a new Director of Children’s Ministries!  We are looking for an energetic, passionate, organized individual who loves to work with children and equip adults to make a difference in children's lives. This part-time staff position will be available in June. Please send a cover letter and résumé to Irene Knott at iknott@cbcnj.org.

See you this weekend!  This place is going to ROCK!
