Central's Pastoral E-Letter: February 22, 2013

Dear Central Family,

I hope that you are having a great week and that you are looking forward to being with us this weekend at Central!

This week, Jared Alcántara will be teaching on Saturday night and during both Modern Services at 9:30 and 11:00. I will be teaching in the 9:30 Classic Service as we focus on answering the question, “How do we balance Grace and Truth as we seek to be the people God wants us to be and the Church God has designed us to be?” I know that you will inspired and challenged and I encourage you to bring a friend with you.

I want to thank everyone who helped us last Sunday with our fire alarm and evacuation during the 11:00 service.  Fortunately, it was not a fire but just a smoke alarm that went off in the kitchen in Allen Hall.  Everyone worked together so well and I appreciate your patience and the fact that you stayed to come back to worship and Life Groups after we got the “all clear”.  It certainly was a Sunday to remember!

Services for Anne Allen (Paul Allen’s mother) will be tomorrow (Saturday), February 23 at the Wilson Apple Funeral Home in Pennington, NJ. The family will have a viewing at 9:00 am and services will start at 10:00 am with a graveside service to follow.  Anne was the faithful and loving wife of our beloved former pastor Dr. David Allen and will always be known for her sweet, fun-loving, servant spirit. We ask that you please pray for the entire Allen, McClintock, Cooper, and Brown families in the coming days.

Our Semi-Annual Business Meeting is this Sunday, February 24 after the 11:00 service.  If you are a member of Central, please take time to sign up on the link below.  Childcare will be provided from birth to 5th grade with prior reservation. We will have a suggested donation of $3.00 for the meal, $10.00 max for families of 4 and more.  This is a great time to connect in community with others at Central and celebrate what God is doing.

A few things for you to be aware of that are just around the corner:

~Discover Central starts again on Sunday, March 3 at 9:30 am in the Board Room.  If you’re interested in becoming a member of Central or if you’d just like to know more about our church, this four-week class will help you learn what we as a church believe and is one of the steps towards membership.

~Mens Breakfast on Saturday, March 9 at 8 am in Allen Hall.  Speaker is our very own Lt. Col. Joel Martin.

~Unplugged service coming starting Easter Sunday!  The service will be at 11:00 am in Adult 1-3 and will feature the same message as given in the other weekend services with a live teacher, but the worship will be unplugged in a relaxed café style atmosphere.

Have a great week and see you this weekend!

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: February 15, 2013

Dear Central Family,

I hope that you are all enjoying the love that God has for all of us as shown to us by the sacrifice of His Son during this month of love.

Speaking of love… to help couples at Central reconnect with each other, the Breakaway Student Ministry is offering FREE BABYSITTING TONIGHT for kids age 2-10 years old from 6-10p! (Drop offs start at 6 pm) Reservations requested but walk-ins will be taken. Dinner will not be provided, so we ask that you feed your child/children prior to dropping them off.  (We ask that you do not leave them with any dinner foods). Snacks will be provided, but if your child/children have any special dietary needs (gluten free, lactose intolerance, etc.) we ask that you inform us and provide a snack for them which is labeled with their first and last name. Any questions or to make a reservation, please contact Pastor Bryan Bunagan (bbunagan@cbcnj.org).

I hope that you will be with us this weekend as we start a brand new series that will focus on the attributes of God and how this applies to our lives and the mission of our Church.  We are calling this series I Know He Is But What Am I?  I guarantee you this will be a different approach and will challenge each of us to better understand God, His heart for us and His mission for His Church.  I will be teaching on Saturday night at 6 pm and both Modern Services at 9:30 and 11:00 am.  Jared Alcántara will be teaching in the Classic Service.

Speaking of the Classic Service, our Classic Worship Director Elizabeth Goida has asked me to let you know that they will be starting on a musical journey leading up to Easter starting this Sunday.  Each week there will be a special music drama that will unfold from the life of Peter presented by the choir.  So if you connect through classic worship I encourage you to come and to invite a friend to come with you.

We will be holding our Semi-Annual Business Meeting on Sunday, February 24 after the 11:00 service.  This will include a lunch cooked by our chefs and a great time of fellowship.   So if you are a member of Central, please take time to sign up on the link below.  Childcare will be provided from birth to 5th grade with prior reservation. Central's Pastoral E-Letter: February 8, 2013

Dear Central Family,

I hope that you will be with us this weekend as we complete Mr. and Mrs. Better Half, our message series on relationships,.  I will be teaching at the Saturday night service and both Modern Services at 9:30 and 11:00 and Jared Smith, a recent seminary graduate, will be guest preacher in the Classic Service at 9:30.  I have been very encouraged by all that God has done so far in this series and I look forward to how He will impact us all this weekend.

We will also be celebrating Believer’s Baptism in both Modern Services this Sunday, so if you have not been baptized I would encourage you to come prepared to take this step. Just bring a towel and a change of clothes and be ready to be blessed due to your following after Christ.

Attention all members of Central!  We will be holding our Semi-Annual Business Meeting on Sunday, February 24 after the 11:00 service!  This will include a lunch cooked by our chefs and a great time of fellowship.  You will hear ministry updates, but even more importantly, we will be honoring the men who have completed our first Men’s Leadership Training Course.  Each of these men will be honored, given special recognition and will have a chance to share with our Central family how God has impacted their lives.  So please take time to sign up on the link below.  Childcare will be provided from birth to 5th grade with prior reservation. This is a great time to connect in community with others at Central and celebrate what God is doing.

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: February 1, 2013

Dear Central Family,

What a great start to our new series Mr. and Mrs. Better Half we had last weekend!

I hope you will be with us this weekend as we look at some key truths that will equip us to have harmony in our relationships with one another.  As I said last week, don’t think this is a time if you are single for you to check out and not come to worship.  If you were to speak to anyone who was here last weekend I am confident they would tell you whether married or single, they were encouraged and challenged by the worship and the teaching.  I will be teaching on Saturday night and both Modern Services on Sunday morning.  Jared will be back teaching in the Classic Service at 9:30.  We will be celebrating communion in all of our services, and we will be making a special announcement this weekend of a new worship venue that we will be starting on Easter Sunday designed to equip you to invite your friends who are looking for something different than the Classic and Modern Worship services we are currently offering. We are excited and  you will want to hear that first hand.

Speaking of Saturday night, we are having a bonfire out in the field after the 6 pm service!  The entire community is invited to S’mores on Saturday, and it’s free!  Spread the word and bring a friend.

Join the ladies of Central for the Women’s Retreat on March 15 to 17!  Guest speaker is Anita Keagy of JoyShop Ministries and the retreat theme is Seeking God First.   To view the retreat brochure, go to this link.  Online registration is now available by going to this link.  (Log in using your Fellowship One log-in if you have one already.  If you don’t have one yet, click on “Create an Account”).

Join the Men's Ministry for a ski & snowboard trip to Shawnee Mountain on Saturday, February 9.  The group will leave from Central at 7:30 am and return at 4:30 pm. Cost is $64 (cash or check to Central), which includes lessons, lift ticket, rental equipment, and van ride (optional). No experience necessary. Reserve your spot by e-mailing Jonathan Uy at  jon@uyfamily.com or sign up at the table this Sunday at the Fellowship Mall.

Finally, we are having a baptism on Sunday, February 10!  It might be cold outside, but the water will be just fine!

See you this weekend!

Pastor Gay
