Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, December 27, 2013

Dear Central Family,

Merry Christmas!

I hope that everyone has been enjoying Christmastime with your family and friends!

I look forward to seeing you this weekend!  I will be concluding our series on A Christmas Carol at both Sunday Modern Services at 9:30 and 11:00. Pastor Gilmer will be teaching in the Classic Service at 9:30 and the Unplugged service at 11:00. Please note there will be NO Saturday night service this weekend.  The four other services will be held, so bring the family, come dressed comfortably, and enjoy worship and fellowship as we wrap this year up (no pun intended).

I also want to thank you for your faithful and sacrificial giving this past year.  Because of your sacrifice, we have seen people come to Christ, our community impacted, and lives transformed!  Thank you for giving so faithfully and generously!  We would appreciate you considering a generous year end gift to our general fund so that our ministry can go forward unhindered as well as to our Greater Campaign as we seek to retire the debt on our facility and free us up for more ministry impact.  Thank you for your obedience to what God is calling you to do.  Please remember that all gifts need to be either received in the church or online by December 31 to be credited to your account for this current year.

Pray with me for our Haiti team as they head out to show the love and compassion of Jesus!  The team left this morning and will be working in Fort Liberte to help finish an orphanage there.

One last note:  Don’t forget we will be holding a New Year’s Eve Worship Service from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.  We have a number of special guests coming to lead us in worship and celebration of what God has done in our lives and what we are anticipating and trusting Him for in this new year. A fellowship time will follow and you are invited to come and bring a special dessert to share.

God bless you, and enjoy your time with family and friends!  See you this weekend!

Pastor Gay

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Thursday, December 19, 2013

Dear Central Family,

I am always amazed at how the body of Christ works together to accomplish so much for the sake of the mission of the Kingdom!

Last weekend you all showed yourself as a shining light to our community through your service, your sacrifice, and your acts of love to the children of this community.  Over 120 families were impacted through the Christmas Store, and along with the stacks of gifts that have been brought in for Project Angel Tree, you showed yourself to be faithful to the mission and calling that God has placed before us.  Way to go!  I am so proud of you.

I am also very excited about what is going to be taking place this weekend through our Christmas outreach.  Now is the time to finalize your invitations to your guests and come along to one of five presentations of the Dickens classic A Christmas Carol.  We will be presenting shows on Friday at 7:00 pm, Saturday at 4:00 and 6:00 pm, and Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00 AM.  Each of these family-friendly presentations is designed for you to come and be challenged by the story of a life that is changed from the inside out.  We will be presenting the power behind that change as you hear of the promise that Christ can bring to all of us.  The teams have been working so hard in preparation for this weekend, so please plan to come and bring someone along with you. You will not be disappointed.  Childcare from birth to age five is available at each of the presentations.

“But what about Sunday morning?  What if I’ve already attended A Christmas Carol…is there a worship service I can attend?”  YES YES YES!  We will hold two worship services on Sunday.  Our Classic Service at 9:30 am in Allen Hall will include a special Advent wreath lighting, a guest soloist, instrumentalists, and carol singing.  At our Unplugged service at 11:00 am in Central Hall, we will sing Christmas carols and worship in a relaxed atmosphere.  Pastor Bryan Bunagan, our Pastor of Student Ministries, will be teaching at those two services.

Once we finish this weekend, we will focus on Christmas Eve, and we will hold two identical Christmas Eve Services at 5:30 and 7:00 pm.  Both services will feature carols, handbells, the Christmas story, and of course a children’s story for the young at heart.  The services will be a welcome respite to all the hectic activities of the season as we focus on the HOPE that Christ brings to all of us.  So whatever your schedule is on Christmas Eve, we have scheduled these two services to fit into your evening.

Looking ahead, we will also have a New Year’s Eve Celebration in the Worship Center 7 pm.  Ring in the new year by enjoying an evening of worship and celebrating what God has done and what He is going to do through us in 2014!  Enjoy fellowship with coffee and desserts afterwards.  Please also feel free to bring a dessert to share.

Finally, I want to express to you how blessed our family has been through your prayers, cards, notes, and words of comfort in the passing of Kim’s Dad.  Lewis Bundy was a mighty man of God whom we are going to greatly miss, but we are so thankful that we will see him again. You as a church family have been such a comfort to all of us!

See you this weekend!

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, December 6, 2013

Dear Central Family,

Christmas is here at Central! From the moment that you drive up to the church and walk into the Fellowship Mall, you will see that Christmas has arrived.

We are very excited about all of the different opportunities that we are going to have to celebrate the greatest gift of all: the gift of Christ.  So here we go!

This weekend, we will begin a brand new series of messages based on the themes of the well-known Christmas classic, The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  No one can read or watch this story and not be impacted about how we can learn about forgiveness of our past, purpose for our present, and hope for the future.  Each week until the new year, we are going to show how Jesus fulfills every part of the longing of our hearts.  This is a great opportunity for you to bring friends to any of our five worship services.  This weekend I will be teaching at our Saturday night service and both Modern Services on Sunday.  Jared Alcántara, our Teaching Pastor, will be teaching at the Classic and Unplugged services. So plan to invite someone to come with you – we have invite cards available in the Welcome Center for you to give out during the week.

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, November 29, 2013

Dear Central Family,

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!  Hope you all enjoyed your time with family and friends giving thanks to our Lord who daily loads us down with His blessings.

Our family celebrated Thanksgiving with my wife Kim’s parents and at the same time celebrated the homegoing of Kim’s grandmother.  Arlene Fridley was 97 years old when Jesus took her home this past Monday.  We rejoice and sorrow at the same time and appreciate your prayers for our family as we travel and grieve together.

If you are in town, we are going to be worshipping in all five weekend services and are planning on finishing our series on the Lord’s Prayer.  Jared Alcántara, our Teaching Pastor, will be teaching on Saturday night at 6:00 pm and at the Modern Services on Sunday morning.  Pastor Anthony Gilmer will be teaching in the Classic and Unplugged services.  We will be celebrating the greatest thing we have to be thankful for—our salvation, as we all participate at the Lord’s Table.

We also have a few opportunities for you to be aware of to share the love of Christ with others:

~ Central's 3rd Annual Christmas Store will be held Saturday, December 14th from 10 am to 2 pm. This service and outreach opportunity is a way for those in our community experiencing severe financial hardship to maintain their dignity while providing gifts for their children. Visit the Christmas Store table in Fellowship Mall and sign out a tag to purchase an unwrapped gift for the store.   You can also sign up to volunteer in a number of ways from donating supplies, setting up beforehand, or working in the store. You can also sign up to volunteer by clicking on this link. Questions?  Contact Toni Campbell at cc@cbcnj.org.

~ There are a few remaining gift tags on the Angel Tree in the Fellowship Mall!  This program reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ by helping to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners.  You can take an "angel ornament” from the tree, purchase the gift requested, and return the wrapped gift to Central.

~ Central invites you to a free production of A Christmas Carol!  Please join us for this fun, not scary, family-friendly production that tells an ancient story in a modern way that everyone can enjoy.  Dates are: Friday, December 20th at 7 pm; Saturday, December 21st at 4 and 6 pm; and Sunday, December 22nd at 9:30 & 11 am.  Invite your friends!

~ Speaking of the Christmas Carol production, we need home-baked cookies that we can serve our guests at the shows!  Visit the table in the Fellowship Mall for more details and to sign up.  If you love to bake, this is a great opportunity for you to get involved.  Visit the table in the Fellowship Mall for more details and to sign up.

~ Do you love to sing?  Do you enjoy the music of the season?  Come to Carol Sing and Ring for Christmas.  We will meet in Allen Hall on Sunday, December 15 at 4 pm for a time to deck the halls, jingle the bells, think about a white Christmas, and await the child born away in a manger.  Christmas treats will be served.  Bring the whole family!

~ Please plan on coming to one of our Christmas Eve Services!  There will be two identical services on Tuesday, December 24th  at 5:30 and at 7:00 pm.  Bring your family and friends!

Thank you for being a part of a family that is focused on the mission of seeing people know God, share life, and serve others.

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, November 22, 2013

Dear Central,

I just got back from Catalyst One Day, a powerful one-day conference in Lancaster, PA with 30 of our leaders and I am very excited about what God is doing here at Central. The conference was a challenge and encouragement to all of us as we seek to lead this ministry.  I thank God for all of our leaders!

This weekend, we will continue our focus on the Lord’s Prayer and examine the most misunderstood requests in this prayer.  Which one is it?  You will have to come to one of our five services to find out.  I will be teaching on Saturday night and in both Modern Services on Sunday, and Dave Buschman, a university chaplain at Princeton University, will be teaching in the Classic and Unplugged services.  I hope you will be at one of our services.

Some upcoming events:

~ Please note that tickets are now SOLD OUT for Central’s Thanksgiving Dinner this Sunday, November 24 at 6 pm.  The event is now at full capacity.

~ The Angel Tree is now set up in Fellowship Mall.  This program reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ by helping to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners.  You can take an "angel ornament” from the tree, purchase the gift requested, and return the wrapped gift to Central.

~ Love to bake?  Then we have an opportunity for you! Please bring your favorite home-baked holiday cookies that will be served to our guests at Central’s Christmas outreach.  Visit the table in the Fellowship Mall for more details and to sign up.

~ Central invites you to a free production of A Christmas Carol. Please join us for this fun family-friendly event for the whole community. Dates are: Friday, December 20th at 7 pm; Saturday, December 21st at 4 and 6 pm; and Sunday, December 22nd at 9:30 & 11 am.  Invite your friends!

Next weekend (November 30 to December 1), we will be sharing with you all the other upcoming events we have planned for the Christmas season to which you can invite someone to come with you so they can experience the love of Christ.

See you this weekend!

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, November 15, 2013

Dear Central Family,

I cannot wait till this weekend!  I have greatly missed being with my Central family the past two Sundays and look forward to worshipping with you and sharing the message God has put on my heart regarding forgiveness.  I will be teaching in the Saturday night service as well as both Modern Services at 9:30 and 11:00 on Sunday. Our Teaching Pastor Jared Alcántara will be teaching on Sunday at the Classic and Unplugged services.  I hope you will make it a priority to be with us for one of our five services.  I believe the extent that we grab hold and apply the truths we will be sharing this weekend will determine our growth individually and corporately as a body.  So please plan to come.

We will be having a Believer’s Baptism this Sunday (Nov. 17) during both Sunday Modern Services!  If you want to take the next step as a believer and be baptized, just bring a change of clothes and come to the office area during either of our Modern Worship Services.  Take the plunge… the water’s just fine!

Come join us for the Men’s Breakfast tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 16) at 8 am!  The speaker will be Helmut M. Hensel, president and founder of Ironworks Taekwondo Academy which help kids and young adults reach their full potential through sports, mentoring and personal development.

Please join us for Central’s Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday, November 24 at 6 pm. Cost is $4 per person and $20 max per family. Children 3 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the table in the Fellowship Mall or you can go to this THIS LINK and use your Fellowship One log-in.  (If you do not have a log-in, you can create one).

Thank you for your generosity!  This past month you gave just above $8,000 to support our project to finish the orphanage in Haiti and gave over $1,800 for Choice One Crisis Pregnancy Center.  The folks at Choice One told us this was half of the total they have raised thus far in the fall baby bottle campaign.  We are a blessed people and you show your heart for others as you reach out to others.  During the holiday time period you will have two more opportunities to minister God’s grace to those in need: first, the Central Christmas Store this week, then next Sunday, Project Angel Tree.  Your giving gifts in the name of Christ impact so many, so thank you for planning to use your resources to impact children at this special time of the year.

One last note: we are really excited about the upcoming Christmas season and all that we have planned in order to worship our Savior and extend His love to others in our community.  Stay tuned, as details will be revealed the weekend of December 1.

See you this weekend!

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, November 1, 2013

Dear Central Family,

We kick off a new series of messages this week on a critical subject: PRAYER!  Each week in the month of November we will be examining and studying the Lord’s Prayer, the most famous prayer in Scripture.  This prayer of our Lord is filled with applicable truth to all of our lives as together we ask the Lord to teach us how to pray. Our lives are filled with all kinds of distractions that can keep us from connecting with God; our goal in this series is to stop and listen to the words that came directly from our Savior and open ourselves up to be challenged in our lives through prayer.  Pastor Jeremy Bell will be teaching in the Saturday night service at 6 pm and both Sunday Modern Services at 9:30 and 11:00 on Sunday.  Pastor Jared Alcántara, our Teaching Pastor, will be teaching in the Classic and Unplugged services.  So plan to come and be challenged and blessed as we all grow in this area of our lives.

I want you to know that I am so thankful for the way you as a body of believers stepped up to give to the Orphanage Project in Haiti.  To date, just under $10,000 has been received to get these children cared for and moved into this much-needed facility.  Thank you for listening and responding to God’s promptings in your heart.  We know that the kingdom is going to be furthered through this project.

Few Notes:

Finally, Kim and I want to thank you all for your prayers for our family and the potential liver transplant for Kim’s dad.  This past week the liver biopsy showed that Kim’s sister who had offered to be a donor is not able to be one, so the transplant is being postponed until a match is found.  Thank you for praying for us all as we wait on the Lord for His provision, and please pray that a donor will be provided for Kim’s Dad.  Thank you so much.

God bless you all!

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: October 18, 2013

Dear Central Family,

What a beautiful fall week we have been enjoying!

I hope you will be with us this weekend as we continue our series on the Holy Spirit that we have called Ghost Stories.  We have been digging into what the Scriptures say about an oft neglected subject: the person and work of the Holy Spirit.  This weekend we are going to be examining a misunderstood doctrine of the Holy Spirit, which when you understand what it really means can lead you to another whole dimension of the Spiritual life.  Curious?  Come to one of our weekend services to join our discovery.  I will be back teaching in the Saturday night service at 6 pm and both Sunday Modern Services at 9:30 and 11:00.  Pastor of Student Ministries Bryan Bunagan will be teaching in the Classic and Unplugged services.

Few Notes:

~ Please remember our men as they are away on the Men’s Retreat this weekend.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work on hearts and for real lasting life impact to take place.

~ We still need hats!  CommunityConnections is still collecting winter/knit hats (mostly men’s) for the next Meals & More event at the Salvation Army.  Also, please note that the baby bottles filled with spare change to benefit Choice One and the items for the Preservation House basket are due this weekend.  Please drop off hats, baby bottles, and Preservation House items by this Sunday, October 20 at the bins in the Fellowship Mall.  For more information, please e-mail Toni Campbell at singsong40@hotmail.com

~ Join us next Friday, October 25 at 7:00pm for a Night of Worship! We will be having a gospel-infused worship service featuring special guests.  Admission is free and there will be childcare available up to age 5. For more details, please e-mail Pastor Anthony Gilmer at agilmer@cbcnj.org

~ The Women’s Ministry is coordinating a Hay Ride and Pumpkin Picking Outing next Saturday, October 26 at Terhune Orchards in Princeton from 11:00am to 1:30pm. The cost is $5 per person.  The first 25 people from Central will get a free pumpkin! Sign up at the table in the Fellowship Mall or e-mail Pastor Anthony Gilmer at agilmer@cbcnj.org.

~ We will be receiving a special offering on Sunday, October 27 for our volunteers from Central who will be going to Haiti in December to minister to the children in The Kings Center orphanage.

~ Discover Your Ministry starts on Sunday, November 3 at 9:30 am.  Do you wonder what part God wants you to play in His mission? Do you wonder if you have any gifts He can use? We will be looking at how you are gifted, who God made you to be, and what passion He has placed in your heart so you can connect with His mission.  To register, please complete the Connect Card or e-mail Pastor Anthony Gilmer at agilmer@cbcnj.org

~ Save the date!  Central’s Thanksgiving Dinner will be on Sunday, November 24 at 6 pm.  Cost is $4 per person and $20 max per family.  Registration link will be sent out soon, but please save the date!

Thank you for your notes, emails, and prayers of concern for my wife Kim's dad, Lewis Bundy.  He has gone back home and is building up his strength as they have tentatively scheduled him for a liver transplant on October 28.  We are still waiting on one more test next week before the date of the transplant is confirmed.  We would greatly appreciate your prayers for Dad, our family, and his daughter Arlene who will serve as a liver donor.  This is a path where we are all learning how to trust, wait, and depend on God to do what only He can do.  Thank you for your prayers and love and concern.

See you this weekend!

Pastor Gay

Central's Pastoral E-Letter: Friday, October 11, 2013

Dear Central Family,

Hope you are enjoying some of the fall weather we’ve been having!

This weekend, we will continue the series called GHOST STORIES where we learn about the person and power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  Pastor of Worship and Mission Jeremy Bell will be teaching on Saturday night and in both Modern Services on Sunday while Teaching Pastor Jared Alcántara will be giving the message in the Classic and Unplugged services.

In addition, we will be doing baptisms in both the 9:30 and 11:00 Modern Services. If you want to take the next step as a believer and be baptized, just bring a change of clothes and come to the office area during either of our Modern Worship Services.  Take the plunge… the water’s just fine!

Few other notes:

~ The Women’s Expo is tomorrow (Saturday, October 12) from 10am to 12 noon.  Come join the Women's Ministry for mini workshops on health, stress management, time management, and finance and also learn about upcoming events! Childcare is available. See you there, ladies!

~ We need hats!  Over the next two weekends, CommunityConnections will be collecting winter/knit hats (mostly men’s) for the next Meals & More event at the Salvation Army.  Also, there are still baby bottles that you can fill with spare change to benefit ChoiceOne and we still have tickets people can take to buy supplies for Preservation House welcome baskets.  Please drop off hats, baby bottles, and Preservation House items by Sunday, October 20 at the bins in the Fellowship Mall.  For more information, please e-mail Toni Campbell at singsong40@hotmail.com

~ Join us on Friday, October 25 at 7:00pm for a Night of Worship! We will be having a gospel-infused worship service featuring special guests.  Admission is free and there will be childcare available up to age 5. For more details, please e-mail Pastor Anthony Gilmer at agilmer@cbcnj.org

~ It’s not too late to go to the Men’s Retreat! The retreat will be next weekend, October 18th to 20th at Sandy Cove Conference Center in North East, Maryland.  The theme is “The Cure: What if God isn’t who you think He is and neither are you?” Please e-mail Pastor Anthony Gilmer at agilmer@cbcnj.org if you are interested in going.

I ask for your prayers as I am currently away with my wife Kim and her family at the Cleveland Clinic where her dad is awaiting a liver transplant.  We are waiting for final testing for Kim’s sister to be approved as a liver donor.  Please pray for her dad to be strengthened and also for the upcoming potential transplant procedure.  Thank you so much!
