Central's Pastoral E-Letter: June 14, 2013

Dear Central Family,   I am looking forward to this weekend as we continue our series, Forgotten Virtues, from the Beatitudes of Matthew 5.  This weekend we will be examining what Jesus says about the trait of meekness.  I think it will surprise you to understand what Jesus is really saying in this passage.  I will be teaching at both Sunday Modern Services at 9:30 and 11:00, our Teaching Pastor Jared Alcántara will be teaching at the 9:30 Classic and 11:00 Unplugged services, and I have asked my friend Al Brown to teach on Saturday night at our 6 pm service.  Al is a graduate of Cairn University (formerly Philadelphia Biblical University), and is an experienced pastor and preacher who has a tremendous heart for people and for God’s Word.  Those of you who attend on Saturday night will be blessed.    Please note that just for this week, we will be moving the Saturday night service location to Central Hall.  The temporary move is because of this Saturday’s homegoing celebration in the Worship Center for Roland Thompson who was a longtime member and leader at Central.  I appreciate your prayers for the Thompson family that God will comfort them in the days ahead.    Our Annual Business Meeting and All Church Lunch will be held on Sunday, June 30 at 12:15 pm. The agenda includes: a ministry review, election of officers, and the presentation of the 2013-14 budget.  Suggested donation for lunch is $3 a person and children 8 and under eat free. Please RSVP using this link.  Childcare is available from birth to 5th grade *with prior reservation* (please indicate names and ages of your children in your response).    As I mentioned above, we will be electing new officers at the June 30th meeting.  The names of the nominees for the positions will be posted at the church this Sunday, which is two weeks before the vote as required by our constitution.  In addition to the list of names, an e-mail will be sent out with pictures and brief bios of the nominees so you can get to know them before you vote.    The Men’s Breakfast is coming up on Saturday, June 22 at 8 am!  Come and enjoy an all you can eat breakfast as Dr. Charles Flores gives you great insights on how to take care of your body, soul, and spirit. Dr. Flores is a local physician (he and his wife attend Central) with a passion for helping men take better care of their health.    We are very excited for Kids Camp which will be held July 22 to 26!  As you know, we need lots of volunteers to make this outreach a successful one.  If you can serve, please e-mail Laurie Brett at lbrett@gtbhc.org or stop by the Kids Camp table at the Fellowship Mall this Sunday.  Have you seen the amazing sign for Kids Camp in the Fellowship Mall?      Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus, who was an example to all of us of meekness personified!   See you this weekend!   Pastor Gay
